Love Raves/Partying/Booming? What you Missed at ULTRA Music Fest

As many of you may know, ULTRA Music Fest 2011 took place this past weekend (March 25-27). If you didn’t get a chance to go (myself included), it looks like you missed out on an awesome time. There’s nothing better than jamming to some sick artists for an entire weekend in Miami, preferably double-barreling some Boom Boom.

Here’s a little preview to rub it in:

According to a recent article in Billboard, here are some of the Top 3 moments seen or heard Friday-Sunday. This is only a teaser of what is written in the original article. Make sure to check it out to get the entire scoop!

Friday:

1. ’80s pop icons Duran Duran showed their age by opening their main stage Ultra set with 1985 James Bond soundtrack single “A View To A Kill.”

2. David Guetta announced the May 2 release of the first single from his forthcoming, as-yet-unnamed album, the follow-up to 2009 multi-platinum breakthrough “One Love.”

3. D.C. DJ Miss Nine made the most of a challenging gig: Keeping the crowd going with extra-large house beats while roadies swapped gear between sets at the Ultra Live stage.

Saturday:

1. Trance DJ/producer and Armada label head Armin van Buuren talked up his association with Flowd, a new GPS/social media app that allows fans to check out and check into their favorite DJs’ favorite spots worldwide. “We’re going to update it at the same time my Facebook and Twitter feeds,” he said.

2. Backstage at Ultra, Dirty Vegas, whose “Days Go By” was famously featured on a Mitsubishi TV spot in 2003, were basking in the electronic explosion.

3. It was a techno DJ lovefest at the Beatport Beach Party. Richie Hawtin, Ambivalent, Barem, and Carlo Lio crowded the booth while Dubfire, formerly of hit-making duo Deep Dish, dropped minimal rhythms for the neon-decked crowd.

Sunday:

1. Diddy’s been threatening to break out as a dance music force for years. He continued the tease with an appearance during longtime friend and collaborator DJ Erick Morillo’s Ultra main stage set.

2. Heineken taxi tops buzzed around South Beach, boasting the brand’s UMF sponsorship with the tagline, “Have a beer with 150,000 of your friends.” This marked a dual victory for any electronic music event: Having enough scale to secure a sponsor willing to throw in promotional media dollars, and sufficiently defending its audience as dominantly 21+.

3. Carl Cox donned an afro wig and dropped classics, jazz and disco to a tiny, invite-only crowd of 200 at Mokai, which included international industry-ites and fellow DJs Steve Lawler and Ferry Corsten.

Sounds like an awesome time to me! If you missed ULTRA 2011, there will be more to come next year. Peace out, Boomheads!

News Flash: Harmful Effects of Energy Drinks [So Boom Boom Wins, Again]

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Typical Nutrition Facts Label for Energy Drinks

A recent study published by the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics determined something that we all probably knew deep down: Energy drinks are bad for you.

In their study on “Health Effects of Energy Drinks on Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults,” Seifert and colleagues found major negative effects of energy drinks, especially on the younger peeps in this country. As you may have heard, energy drinks contain tons of additives that basically shock the nervous system and stimulate the brain to make you more alert, awake, and energetic. However, like everything else in the world, everything comes at a price (not to mention the $3 it costs to buy the energy drink itself).

According to self-report surveys, the researchers found that 30% to 50% of adolescents consume energy drinks. Energy drinks contain high amounts of caffeine, which have been associated with seizures, cardiac abnormalities, mood disorders, etc. –especially among children and adolescents. Of the over 5,000 caffeine overdoses reported in the US in 2007, 46% occurred in people younger than 19 years old.

Scary stuff! I am no energy drink virgin, and have heard about the negative effects. I have never OD’d on energy drink consumption, but I can tell you the effects are definitely felt. I agree that energy drinks contain an unregulated and basically “unknown” level of caffeine that people–especially adolescents and young adults–don’t take seriously enough. Sure, energy drinks may provide that desired feeling in the short term, but is it really worth such negative long term effects?

Probably not. Remember Four Loko? I was in love with that stuff…until they made it illegal in Michigan. Just the other day I saw it on the shelves, but it was missing its main ingredient: caffeine. The drink did the trick, but I know it wasn’t safe.

So how do you get that pick-me-up if you wan’t to avoid the crazy amounts of caffeine? Look no further than Boom Boom–energy you inhale. It’s small enough to fit anywhere and it refreshes the senses while giving you an energy kick. No caffeine. Just 100% natural stuff here.

Bar, Club, or House Party? Where’s the Best Place to Boom Boom?

Where’s the best place to party with some Boom Boom?

It’s the question we all ask ourselves every Friday, Friday (sorry, I just had to throw in a Rebecca Black reference). We are done with class/work for the week….so what to do now? Chances are you will check with your friends or hit up Facebook for any upcoming Facebook events. And chances are, you’ll find all three types of party venues: bars, clubs, and house parties. So which is the best? Either way, you don’t want to forget your Boom Boom to invigorate yourself before participating in any party activity. Rev up your mind and your body will follow.

Bars

Bars are usually chill, fun, and social. There is nothing like heading down to your local bar for some good times with good friends. A little more intimate than clubs without the craziness of house parties, bars are an all-around good time. There are usually some pretty good specials if you pick the right night. And who could forget Happy Hour?  4-6 PM $2 dollar beers? We’re on it.

The Downside: If you aren’t 21, don’t even try. I’m pretty sure all bars stop admitting minors (even if it is also a restaurant) around 9 or 10 PM. Also, bars can get pretty packed and loud if you’re just looking to grab a few drinks and chill with your friends.

Clubs

Clubs are insanely fun, especially if you like to get your groove on and scope out that sexy guy or gal from across the floor. People usually dress to impress (i.e. Jersey Shore), so don’t be afraid to get your Guido on (disclaimer: this probably won’t impress anyone, besides the Guidettes, of course). As long as you find people to dance with, you should be good. With the drinks flowing, beats pumpin’, and Boom Boom in your pocket, clubs are some of the hottest places to be at night, especially if you are in a big city.

The Downside: Dancing isn’t for everyone, and it might be hard to sit and socialize if the music is too loud. Also, your shoes end up filthy afterwards.

House Parties

You gotta love house parties. They can be any size you want them to be, until the hoards of people start showing up. News of house parties spreads quickly through word of mouth, so be prepared. However, they usually turn out to be really fun and there is nothing better than some cheap keg beer and some Jungle Juice, especially if you’re in college. Parties are fun for the people throwing them and for the people attending.

The Downside: That being said, parties are fun until someone heaves in the corner. Usually super packed and dirty inside and not so much fun for the hosts who have to clean up the next day.

So which venue is best? Looks like it’s up to you–what your tastes are and what you feel like for the evening. The best part about it, though? Bring some Boom Boom and you’ll be guaranteed to have a good time, wherever you choose to be.

The Top 10 Places in the World to Boom Boom (Part Deux)

Hey party people!

The long wait has ended. Here comes your Part Two/Parte Dos/Partie Deux of the Top 10 Places to Party (with Boom Boom, of course). As a recap, here are the cities at the top of the list:

10. Buenos Aires, Argentina

9. Ibiza, Spain

8. Reykjavik, Iceland

7. Berlin, Germany

6. Tel-Aviv, Israel

Now let’s look at the remaining 5.

5. Las Vegas, USA

Sin City, baby! I was hoping Vegas would make the list. It’s basically Disneyland for adults. It’s the late-night paradise for anyone who loves to party. From gambling in Paris to seeing Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage…or living it up at the hottest clubs on the Strip…Las Vegas is the ultimate place to be. It’s a city that sleeps during the day and parties at night. Definitely Boom Boom worthy.

4. Saint-Tropez, France

Live it up in Riviera glamor at this party paradise. You can’t help but fall in love with the white and blue EVERYTHING. Picture yourself on a white sand beach, sipping a fancy cocktail and then taking a nap before going out to some sick beach clubs. Sounds like a Booming place to be.

3. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

If only we could be there right now to join the festivitiesl! This Mardi Gras-lover’s dream is so wild it’s called Carnival. Tons of hot people, hot weather, and hot parties. The white sand beaches and colorful festivities have earned Rio the reputation of an insanely fun, festive party hot spot. Brazil…la la la la la la.

2. Montreal, Canada

J’adore faire la fête! (translation: I love to party) This European-meets-North-American city is like none other. It has charm, it has elegance, it has style, and most of all…it has some sick parties. Casino gambling, a lower drinking age (18 in Quebec), and awesome night life make this city one of a kind. Of course, a little Boom Boom would make it that much better.

–And now….for your number 1 party destination! Drum roll please……..

1. New York City, USA

BOOM! Of course, what could be better than the city that never sleeps? Block after block of skyscrapers, restaurants, bars, and clubs makes New York the premier party destination in the WORLD. This is the perfect place for a good time, 24/7. That’s why We Love New York!

Time to travel the world with some Boom Boom. Let’s make it happen!

10. Buenos Aires, Argentina

I’ve had a lot of friends go here, and they have all told me it’s super cheap. You can live like royalty for just 50 bucks. Also, this city is the perfect combination of European and South American culture.

9. Ibiza, Spain

Without a doubt, Ibiza is one of the hottest party spots in Europe. Located in the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain, Ibiza is the ultimate party destination for anyone looking for a crazy fun time.

8. Reykjavik, Iceland

This one is a little surprising, because who would think to party on Iceland? It’s an island in the middle of nowhere. However, Iceland is famous for its insane partiers and thermal waters. Sounds like an interesting place to party!

7. Berlin, Germany

Ich Bin ein Berliner! And who can forget Das Boot? Berlin is home to an amazing Euro club scene, and quite possibly the best music scene in the world. Perfect place to rave. Perfect place to Boom.

6. Tel-Aviv, Israel

This Middle-Eastern-meets Mediterranean-city has great vibes. This city boasts all-night dance clubs perfect for the party-hungry jet-setter.
